materials group. Victrex is the sole manufacturer
of PEEK polymer, a high performance thermoplastic
with a unique combination of properties
The Semiconductor industry's demand for smaller, tight tolerance IC packages that operate at higher frequencies is making it increasingly difficult for traditional materials previously used for test socket applications.

Piper Plastics has become the
world leader in providing cost effective finished parts
and assemblies from Polyetheretherketone (PEEK). This relatively
new high performance material is the fastest growing plastic
material of choice in the Semiconductor, Medical, and Aerospace/Defense
industries. PEEK's high strength, high temperature resistance,
and superior chemical resistance have contributed to the
successful replacement of metal, glass, ceramic, and more
expensive polymers such as Vespel.
Piper Plastics machines and
assembles tight tolerance PEEK components and remains the
industry leader in PEEK welding, bonding, and other fabrication
techniques. Ask Piper to quote your PEEK parts using our
proprietary and cost-effective near net shape molding and
machining techniques.
Important
Characteristics of
Victrex® PEEK
High Temperature Performance
A continuous service temperature (UL746B method) of
up to 260°C (500°F) with excellent electrical
and mechanical properties retained. HDT of up to 315°C
for reinforced grades
Strength & Toughness
Exceptionally high strength properties combined with
good toughness over a wide range of temperatures.
Chemical Resistance
Insoluble in most common solvents and being semi-crystalline
has excellent resistance to a very wide range of organic
and inorganic liquids, at elevated temperatures.
Wear Resistance
Excellent friction and wear properties over a wide range
of pressure, velocity, temperature and counterfacial
roughness.
Purity
Inherently pure with exceptionally low levels of ionic
extractables and excellent outgassing characteristics.
Radiation Resistance
Resistance to gamma radiation at high dose levels is
exceptional
Low Flammability
UL V-O flammability rating down to 1.45 mm (0.057) without
the use of additives.
Low Smoke and Toxic
Gas Emission
The composition and inherent purity of the materials
results in extremely low smoke and toxic gas emission
in fire situations.
Hydrolysis Resistance
Can be used for thousands of hours at elevated temperatures
in excess of 250°C (482°F) in steam or high
pressure water environments without significant degradation
in properties.
Electrical Properties
Remains stable over a wide range of temperatures and
frequencies.
Processing
Easily processed using a wide range of conventional
thermoplastic processing equipment.
